The region must be able to attract companies that will pay fair and family-sustaining wages. We must make it our highest priority to attract and retain workers, especially in the manufacturing sector of our economy, as our population has stagnated for decades. Our development goals must also have an environmentally-sustainable focus and be equitable, so that all of our communities can flourish.
For example, the Pittsburgh region is world renowned for breakthroughs in robotics and other innovations, but manufacturing jobs propelled by these innovations are going to places like Columbus, Ohio rather than staying here. This needs to change. We need to grow those jobs here. As County Executive, Dave will incentivize the rebirth of our advanced manufacturing sector.
Further, we need to address long neglected issues, like the persistent disparities faced by low income residents, primarily in our minority communities, focusing on early childhood education opportunities, juvenile justice, criminal justice, health outcomes, air pollution, and de facto racial segregation. Dave will tackle those challenges head on so Allegheny County can truly be a home of economic opportunity for all.
